Located in Foster City, Ronald C Wornick Jewish Day School is a pluralistic community day school for students from TK until 8th grade. We are a warm and welcoming community with a collaborative team focused on bettering our school, supporting our students and welcoming our families. Wornick Day School is seeking a Native-Level Hebrew Teacher to start immediately through the end of the 2021-2022 school year to join our team and bring the joy of learning Hebrew to our students.

Qualified candidates should possess the following:

Strong knowledge of teaching Hebrew to Hebrew-speaking children who may never have lived in Israel but speak Hebrew at home.
Strong familiarity and experience with Israelis and Israeli culture if not native Israeli.
Team-oriented, with a strong desire to work with a dynamic and dedicated group of peer teachers, and a passion for teaching.

An up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination including a booster if 6 months have passed since vaccination, and an understanding that masks must be worn at all times on campus unless eating outdoors in designated eating areas.

Responsibilities include:

~ Teaching 2 to 3 sections of Hebrew in the elementary and/or middle school, depending on current needs of the school.

Work to develop engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum with the support of the Director of Hebrew and Judaic Studies, Hebrew Curriculum Coordinator, and Head of School.

~ Provide individualized, small group, and whole group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

~ Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry-based methods, group discussion, experiential learning, and project-based learning to meet learning objectives.
~ Work collaboratively with the Hebrew team and members of the Jewish Studies department to infuse holidays and the Jewish life cycle into the Hebrew curriculum when appropriate.

~ Lead a Friday kabbalat shabbat ritual during class time, outdoors, with challah and grape juice.

~ Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive atmosphere in the classroom.

~ Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports three times per year

~ Attend all professional development and faculty and grade level meetings

~ Participate in all school events including; open houses, student performances, back to school night, parent teacher conferences and similar events.

~ Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner including student progress report cards, and assessments.

~ Regularly assess students and report home appropriately to parents on student progress, including one on one phone calls or Zoom conferences as needed.

~ Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Hebrew and Jewish Studies and Head of School.

Work collaboratively with the teaching team to plan and facilitate activities and special programs.

Schedule of Teaching: This is a part time job, requiring the employee to be on campus only during the hours they are instructing and during mandatory staff meetings.
Prep time on campus can be included in employee’s scheduled hours if desired. This position has the possibility to extend into a full time role. Full time teachers are expected to be on campus from 8:00-3:30 daily and also attend bi-weekly staff meetings after school. The Hebrew teacher’s instructional schedule includes classroom instruction, morning tfilah supervisions, a weekly Hebrew staff meeting, special holiday event presentations, learning celebrations, classroom meetings, and various duties like recess supervision or dismissal duty. Teachers are expected to be available outside the school work hours for phone calls, nightly email checks, special events, and in the case of an emergency.
